New Roots Phoenix is a project of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Phoenix, an international non-profit organization that helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. At New Roots, they utilize agriculture to empower refugees and asylees to make connections in their new homeland. To do this, they manage two farm sites and work with two partner organizations, to support over 30 farmers.
CamelBackyard is an urban farm located just off the light rail in Phoenix near 17th Ave and Camelback Rd. A community food hub that is proud to grow organic produce through an aquaponics greenhouse and have 20 raised garden beds open to the community. Their shaded outdoor classroom with an adjacent community kitchen provides a great space for educational workshops and classes. With a refrigerator for food storage, sink, and plenty of counter space, it provides a clean outdoor area for gardeners to wash and process produce. CamelBackyard serves as the pick-up site for our weekly CBY produce boxes.
